I've been using single lithium cells for over a year with hitec's 555
receiver. Servos run a bit slower, but not a problem. Think of it as "linear
expo".
Seriously, my very aerobatic colibri flew with a single lithium, and
currently my "eb" (aka mini-jw) is flying with a single 700 ma Li-Ion cell.
I don't see a problem in your bug. In fact, it's a great idea!
Charge it at 1C.
