It's been my experience for about two years that lithiums work great on small models. Just use one cell. At 3.6 - 3.7 volts you will not need a regulator. I've found the servos to be a bit sluggish for stick-banging, but you'll be flying smoothly anyways. Even the nimble Colibri didn't feel sluggish AT ALL. I have a 700 mAh LiIon cell in my Mini JW, a Herring, and in a (crashed) colibri. Your challenge will be to find a lithium cell that is comparable in size and weight to a 4x50 mAh nicad.
