There was some discussion about that very thing recently. You might want
to dig through the archive for those messages. The basic consensus was
that reducing the weight much could have impact on it's ability to
penetrate wind. Since thermals don't exist on calm days it could limit
your flying opportunities. The up side would be a very light lift slope
ship would be possible. The other application would just be a fun
glider for calm weather days. Balance would be challenging without
adding ballast but it certainly wouldn't be impossible. If built that
lightly it could also be a hand launch indoor glider though you're still
faced with no sustaining lift in that case. Something to think about
but certainly nothing to discourage you from experimenting! :)
