Over here, we use thermals.
Actually, that is a good idea, and a cd outrunner (I'm surprised how easy mine was to build!) with 10 oz of thrust will pull the Bug straight up. But the whole key to the bug's performance is its' light wingloading, which would be spoiled with a motor, mount, speed control and battery. You would no longer have a glider, but an inexpensive, speedy little sport plane instead!
Sure would be cute.

Anybody tried putting one of these small CD rom motor outrunners on the front of a bug?
One of these and a small battery pack would take it up to height nicely.
