Subject: Re: Reinforced fuse (not just for new pilots)
I glassed my fuse with .075 FG cloth(two layers). I don't have a scale but it was defiantly worth it. Allen replied that it added 3 grams so I may have added 6. I sprayed the fuse with adhesive and then formed the FG to the fuse. I cut the cloth large and applied it down one side, around the bottom and up the other side. I left one side long and ran strips across the top, overlapping the starting side about ¼". After it was in position I used med. CA to wet it out. The second layer I ran in the other direction. The fuse is now bullet proof with not mach additional weight. I have an EPP foam nose that helps absorb direct hits. I lost a battery the other day and it went in hard on a side arm launch without any damage, except for the servos being jarred loose. I would recommend glass for all new pilots. I will gladly suffer the added weight to avoid the build fly, build fly build fly syndrome.

How much weight did the glass add? We've been covering the fuse's with ultracote lite with much increased strength and little weight penalty. Also, we have used light 1/8 sheet for sides with the same success. Adding onto the CF reinforcements, our fuselages buckle at the radio hatch area with a hard nose-in. Any luck reinforcing this area? Or, perhaps, a redesign is in order??? Sincerely, Dan E. DanStrider@...

Has anyone glassed the fuse on a Bug to add strength? What about CF reinforcements. (I'm not that good of pilot yet.)
