Hi all,
A site and a discussion group about do-it-yourself high-torque/no-
gearbox brushless motors:
http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/lrk-torquemax
On that site you'll find a FAQ and links. The motors built to date,
range from slow-flight to 2kW. A simple lathe will do. The lrk
principle features a high torque at low rpm, compared to conventional
brushless motors. There is no need for a gearbox, which means less
weight, less $$$'s, no losses, no whining and no wear. The motor can
swing a bigger prop, resulting in an even higher overall system
efficiency. The builder can tailor the motor to the application by
adapting the number of windings. Outrunners are inside-out motors,
the coils are stationary, housing and magnets rotate. This has the
additional benefit of good magnet cooling and the coils are not
stressed by centrifugal forces.
I'm the lrk mailing list's monitor.
