You have to click on Hand Launch to get to the Lil'Bird 2 on the skybench site.   John ________________________________ From: John Gallagher <gldrgidr@...> To: "BugHLG@yahoogroups.com" <BugHLG@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Friday, July 6, 2012 1:15 PM Subject: Re: [BugHLG] Oh No!   The .049 was equivalent to the old speed 400 class in electrics.  Most gliders in that class were about 60" in span.  There are a lot of old hand launch gliders in that size that would probably work.  Anything smaller would probably be over-powered with the .049. The M&M Illusion might work.  http://www.mmglidertech.com/illusion.php Skybench's Lil'Bird 2 is in the same class.  http://www.skybench.com/index.html?http://www.skybench.com/home.html   There are a lot of vintage gas free-flight models you might like.  Many people are converting them to RC.  The Lanzo Bomber and the Playboy Jr are two that come to mind.  The Vintage forum in RC groups has many plans available for these old timers.  http://www.rcgroups.com/vintage-and-old-timer-designs-209/   I asssume that you have the .049 and that's why you want to use it, but I would also suggest that you look into a brushless motor setup.  I realize that it's a major change if you are only familiar with gas powered models.   Let us know what you decide.   John   ________________________________ From: "mailto:dfairchilds%40sbcglobal.net" <mailto:dfairchilds%40sbcglobal.net> To: mailto:BugHLG%40yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, July 5, 2012 7:48 PM Subject: [BugHLG] Oh No!   I'm a new guy. That is going to obvious! I have been building models of my own design and others for 60 years. Yup, 60. Started when I was eight. R/C, FreeFlight, everything, Even a couple of HLG. I am looking for a design -kit or plans- that lends itself to being powered by an 049 engine. I know that is blasphemy to this group, but it is necessary for me to engine launch and radio control the descent. I can scratch build from plans, or build a kit, but cannot hand or winch launch. I would prefer no carbon fiber, but can do that if necessary. So come on fellow modelers.... Rack your brains, download all your experience on me and give me some ideas.... No 2 meter stuff, looking at a max of 36-40 inch wingspan. I want to get it into the ionosphere over Arizona and thermal til my batteries explode. LOL.
