Your servo, battery, and radio setup should work, but I had to add quite a bit of weight to balance it out. You might want to add a fourth nicad since you need the weight up there anyway. For sal, the best mod would be a cruciform tail. With it, my bug tracks arrow-straight from launch. The penalty is a bit of reduced performance that is particularly noticeable when your fight turbulence close to the ground. I found the V-tail allowed the bug to "wobble" a lot on launch, and hard launches would actually snap roll it. I have a picture of the cruciform tail (Colin's idea) in the Photos section in the folder named Paul Johnson. For covering use nothing heavier than light transparent ultracote. For your next bug, check out Colin Bosch's ideas, his photos are in the Photos section in the folder named Carbon Bug. Good luck, and watch out for hawks. -PJ ----- Original Message ----- From: balsabreath <alclark@...> To: BugHLG@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, March 03, 2003 6:21 PM Subject: [BugHLG] Mods for SAL? A friend just told me about this group. I have just completed building a stock Bug from the RCM plan and am ready to cover. Can the Bug be side arm launched? Are modifications needed to do SAL? If so, what are they? I plan to use a Hitec 555 Rx and HS-50 servos with a 50 mah 3 cell NiCAD battery (or 150 mah 3 cell NiMH battery). Yahoo!
