Hello Rick the second batch of kits was shipped last weekend, the third series of kits will go out at the end of this week. The bug was more popular than I expected it to be . My Dad went through a hernia op a wee while back and yes do take it very easy!!! I suppose you will have lots of time to build many variations of the Lightninbug for testing! Hi, Hope Alan doesn't mind that I uploaded this modified optional tail file to the Lightninbug folder.I'm working on the theory that more fin/rudder area gives higher launches, so I increased the size by 10% and moved the hinge line further back to get more fin area for launch stability.Don't know if it will work yet. Just had a hernia operation yesterday so I'll go through a build-only period.I had the first one in 2003 and was told to refrain from throwing for six months.This time they told me in 3 to 4 weeks I could try light throws.The Laparoscopy surgery seems like a miracle. Anyone else go through this? How long did you wait? John- Nice job on updating the traditional plan- I like it. In Carl's article on building the Bug, he calls for 1/8" balsa at the W1 wing root ribs. I have replaced the BugX-Vtailplan file with the BugX.pdf file. The changes: X-tail modified shape and size. Nose lengthened 3/4". One servo moved to front fuselage compartment. Control horns angled correctly. Extended spar to tip for better grasp during SAL/DLG launch. I have a few other changes, like showing how to mount the peg and maybe going back to the original 1/8" hardwood front peg wing mounting. I've left the pushrod setup open to builders discresion. Hey guys - Funny to reread my old post. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the process. I haven't had much problem with the "joggle" described in the second post, but have come up with the perfect solution. I used Visio to plot a perfect parabola and then drew up new plans for a 48" DLG version of the Bug with a pylon mounted wing and a pod fuselage. I'll post it in the files section if it'll accpet Visio files. This plane is built with the exception of the pod form, which I'm still working on. Will maiden this spring.
